The Military Branch Museum is temporarily closed for renovations to the War Memorial Building.

History:

Originally built in 1925 to honor those Tennesseans who served in the First World War, the Military Branch of the Tennessee State Museum was initially established by the state legislature to house veteran’s souvenirs beginning with the Spanish-American War. It has since grown to include military engagements throughout the twentieth century to more recent conflicts. Exhibits at the Museum were redesigned in 2019 to accommodate environmental challenges in the aging building and better protect important military artifacts. Visitors today will find a more contemporary narrative relying heavily on storytelling and graphics. We recommend all visitors to the Military Branch consider visiting the Museum’s main location for expansive exhibitions on WWI and WWII.

Location:
301 6th Ave. North, in downtown Nashville, inside the historic War Memorial Building on Legislative Plaza. The entrance is on the left side of the building near the Vietnam War Memorial. The entrance which offers safety ramps for accessibility is located off of Union Street on the south end of Legislative Plaza and there is also a ramp off of M.L. King Blvd. at the north end of Legislative Plaza across from Capitol Hill.
