Long Journey Home is Johnson County's Heritage Music and Arts Celebration held every Labor Day weekend in Mountain City.
You can hear claw hammer banjo played on the front porch of the Clarence "Tom" Ashley homeplace, hear Appalachian Murder Ballads on the creek bank where Tom Dooley was captured, and so much more! That weekend, a new mural painted by local artists and depicting the musical heritage of Johnson County is unveiled downtown.
Friday: There is busking in downtown.
Saturday: Live music throughout the community paying tribute to musicians from Johnson County who impacted the music landscape from Early American to the Folk Revival. Mural unveiled.
Sunday: Gospel music performed on the stage of the original 1925 Old Time Fiddler's Convention.
