Our story began in 2009 as we opened our doors and became Knoxville’s first winery and Tennessee’s first urban winery. Our wine is made from all locally grown fruit from Tennessee growers, which we make at our location at the Historic Southern Railway Station in downtown Knoxville. Blue Slip prides itself on providing a unique urban, historical and truly Tennessee wine experience, as well as provide special event venue space ranging from weddings, banquets, live performances, and private parties.
The Southern Railway Station of Knoxville was built in 1903-1904, and was designed by the architect, Frank P. Milburn, for the Southern Railway Company. Records of the time note an initial construction estimate of $40,000. The budget was later increased to $80,000 and in 1901 a notice indicated that the contract had been awarded to Nicholoas Ittner of Atlanta for $100,000.
