When a woman of boundless determination and generosity sets her sight on building a museum, the ultimate result is the Houston Museum of Decorative Arts. That woman was Anna Safley Houston--a Chattanooga original, a fearless entrepreneur and owner of a world-class collection of antiques. The museum that serves as her legacy has beaten all the odds for 60 years, inspiring tens of thousands of visitors.
Miss Anna's collection includes very rare examples of art glass from Steuben, Tiffany, New England Glass Co., Mount Washington Glass Co., Phoenix, Fenton and Harrach. Ceramics from such potteries as Rookwood, Royal Doulton, Newcomb, Meissen, Royal Bayreuth and Villeroy and Boch are displayed featuring great detail and craftsmanship. The museum also displays an extensive collection of rare, early Tennessee furniture, music boxes, coverlets and a vast array of objects which reflect the many facets of early life in America.
Whether you are a collector, a scholar or simply have a casual interest in the decorative arts, this boutique museum will be the highlight of your visit to Chattanooga!
