Goner Records was founded in 1993 by Eric Friedl to put out worthy music he felt was going unnoticed and unreleased, beginning with Guitar Wolf from Tokyo as well as local Memphis legends, the Oblivians and the Reatards. In 2004 he partnered with Zac Ives and opened a brick and mortar store at 2152 Young Avenue in Memphis. The shop, which has a wide variety of interesting new and used LPs and 45s, has been recognized by Rolling Stone and Spin Magazine as one of the best in the country. The label is still going strong with nearly 200 releases in the catalog. Goner also promotes shows and DJ nights in Memphis, culminating every September with Gonerfest, a four-day music festival that brings bands and fans to Memphis from all over the world. A Memphis institution, Goner continues to set the standard for good music and fun times the world over.
