On the National Register of Historic Places and one of only seven remaining antebellum courthouses in Tennessee, here you can discover how Kingston was the 'Capital for a Day,' and how a young Sam Houston clerked at a local hardware store. This historic courthouse is home to many artifacts relating to Roane County's history, including the Civil War, and an archive library full of books and papers about our rich heritage. Also located in the courthouse is a transportation museum and a restored courtroom on the 2nd level (elevator is available).
The Roane County Heritage Commission runs the courthouse with funds raised through membership and fundraising efforts that include their annual Gala held on the grounds and inside the courthouse.
