Marcy Jo’s is a southeast staple for comfort foods and need we say… cinnamon buns… The original location known as the “Mealhouse” was the brainchild of country artist Joey Feek (of the country music duo Joey+Rory) and her sister-in-law, Marcy Gary (sister to Rory Feek). Inspired by their legacy of family recipes, this roadside food attraction is a must-stop for locals and travelers alongside the I-65 corridor claiming to “change lives… one bite at a time.”
The first location, “Marcy Jo’s Mealhouse,” opened back in 2007 in an abandoned general store complete with a heated wood-fire stove and homemade food fare that’s actually “homemade.” The iconic white building with red trim hugs the edge of the road at the “T” where State Road 99 joins U.S. 431 in Pottsville, a rural community between Chapel Hill and Columbia, TN. Inside, a single large room with an upstairs balcony features Marcy’s yard sale finds. Customers crowd around 1950s-style enamel-top tables with mismatched chairs and walls with whitewashed pine that feature memorabilia from Joey+Rory over the years.
The second location “Marcy Jo’s Muletown” opened up in 2019 in downtown Columbia and offers up a daily selection of Marcy Jo’s fan favorites, but also a few healthier options such as salads with grilled chicken, avocado toast, and fresh fruit (plus their famous chicken salad recipe).
In addition, the “Muletown” downtown location features a regular singer-songwriter performance series called “Muletown in the Round” which has been featured on RFD-TV as a regular TV series.
