This historic cemetery shows damage from Civil War skirmishes.
Greenwood’s location on a bluff above the Duck River made it a prime spot for sharpshooters from both sides. Headstones show damage from skirmishing that took place during General Hood’s advance on Nashville in November 1864. After the war, African Americans established one of their first Reconstruction churches at the northwest corner.
