Also known as Red River Blockhouse No. 1, this federal fort was built in 1862, as its National Register nomination states, in reaction to the “Confederate invasion of Kentucky and the near disaster caused by Confederate raids of the railroads.” Federal troops, including the 15th Infantry, U.S. Colored Troops, garrisoned the blockhouse until the war was over. This National Register-listed site is not open to the public.
