Hardin County's vast green, suburban landscape is divided by the great Tennessee River into two nearly equal areas of land, more notably known as Savannah.

Visitors can better understand the topography through the Tennessee River Museum, which offers family-friendly activities (such as Tiny Tot Tuesdays!) and 10 exhibits ranging from the Trail of Tears to the Golden Age of Steamboats. Beyond the museum, visitors may explore the river on its own through boating, kayaking, and other forms of water-friendly recreation.

The nearby Shiloh National Military Park—now impressively celebrating its 100th year as a national park—conducts ranger-led programs on Civil War battlefield sites from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Inspired by Civil War-era music, a free Summer Concert Series in the park will take place Memorial Day weekend, when programs commemorate America's servicemen and men throughout history.

Thursday, May 26 marks the annual Buford Pusser Festival in honor of the late Sheriff Buford Pusser. Going on its 28th year, the festival takes place in the Adamsville, Tennessee Pusser Park. Pusser's commanding attention, though now just a memory, illustrates his well-respected character who fought crime each and every day of his career. The Buford Pusser Festival now gathers the town and greater region—all ages welcome—to celebrate the Sheriff's life through a day of arts and crafts, a 5K race, an antique car show, food, carnival games, and a softball tournament.
