When you’re craving a delicious Southern-Soul food meal, head on over to Brooks Shaw & Son’s Old Country Store. While the story and song of heroic Casey Jones put Jackson on the map, locals and visitors agree that the Old Country Store has been a highlight of Jackson for 60 years and the buffet is a one-of-a-kind eating experience. Family-owned and -operated since 1965, the store offers daily lunch and dinner buffets, and a popular weekend breakfast buffet.
The home-cooked menu of traditional Southern food and unique twists on classic dishes vary by day and season, with some lunch and dinner favorites including creamed spinach, turnip greens with ham hock, collard greens, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, and more.
The Old Country Store serves breakfast seven days a week. You can sit down and enjoy a hot plate breakfast and a la carte items at the Dixie Café Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the buffet is open for breakfast and features eggs, bacon, country ham, sausage, casseroles, biscuits, gravy, breakfast potatoes, fresh fruit, pancakes and more. In December, the breakfast buffet is open seven days a week to accommodate Christmas parties and families traveling for the holidays.

Casey Jones is without a doubt the world’s most famous railroader. Casey Jones’ Railroad Museum is next door to the historic home and a self-guided tour of the house is included in your admission fee. The kid-friendly museum offers exhibits about the life, sacrifice, and legacy of Jones, the role railroads played in the Civil War, the city of Jackson’s railroad history and souvenirs and gifts for train lovers of all ages. Explore the exhibit hall, then climb aboard the 35-ton replica Engine 382 locomotive and ring the bell. The museum hosts free activities on a daily basis Monday-Friday like Casey Jones Craft Camp everyday at 12:30 p.m. and Storytime Station for younger children that includes a story and snack everyday at 10:30 a.m. There’s also a Little Free Library in front of the entrance for Guests to “take a book or leave a book” at their leisure. In December, the Museum hosts Polar Express nights with a movie screening in the theater, crafts, refreshments, ringing the bell and visiting with Santa in the house. It’s a must see for all kids.

The store’s founder, Brooks Shaw, opened the Old Country Store as an antiques museum to show off his collection in 1965. His love for antiques and nostalgia for a simpler time is carried on by his family throughout the village, as the walls and displays are covered in history.
At Miss Anne’s Ice Cream Shoppe, named in memory of founder Brooks’ wife, enjoy a scoop of satisfying Blue Bell ice cream in a freshly made waffle cone, old-fashioned candy, handspun milkshakes and delicious fudge. The antique 1880s ice-cream soda fountain is one of only three of its kind in existence. While you’re there, explore the children’s section with toys, books, stuffed animals, antique diecast toy cars, puzzles, gifts and more. The Ice Cream Shoppe is a great way to introduce traditional favorites like Raggedy Ann dolls, sock monkeys, Davy Crockett’s coon-skin caps, marbles, jack’s, tiddlywinks, and more to a new generation.
Other points of interest at Casey Jones Village include The Farm at Casey Jones Village, where visitors can walk through and enjoy wildflowers and herbs planted in raised garden beds. Check out vintage Ford trucks and tractors, muscadine vine tunnel, yard games, gem mining, and additional retail in season. . While you’re outside exploring, see the 100-year-old Village Chapel where Sunday services are held weekly. Over in the Village Shoppes, you’ll find The Art in the Village Gallery, a faith-based nonprofit collective that showcases works from over 30 local, West Tennessee artists. Though the Old Country Store can feel like stepping into the past, the Shaw family continues to add new attractions and amenities to the Village. Several projects have recently been completed, including a drive-thru at the Dixie Cafe, expanding the dining room with the addition of the Wellwood Store, and a Civil War Trails stop at the Providence House. There are also 24 Tesla SuperCharger stations that select other electric vehicles can charge at with an adapter at Casey Jones Village, providing thousands of charging sessions a month. It’s a forward-thinking amenity, attracting drivers passing through the state or across the country who are looking for a safe place to stop and recharge.

Parties are held annually at the Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum to celebrate Jones’ birthday, around March 14th, and anniversary of the wreck around April 30th and free admission for all Guests who stop by those days.
